No Fear

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”—John 11:25-26

He is the resurrection. Not only does He resurrect others and not only is He resurrected Himself, but in Him are found the return to life of everything dead and dying and the transformation of dead and futile lives empty of meaning and truth. He is not just a resurrected person. Scripture records other resurrections—the boy Elijah raised, the man Jesus raised, the 12 year old girl He raised, and Lazarus. But all the others eventually died again. Not Jesus. As the resurrection, the firstborn from the dead who lives forever, Jesus causes all who place their hope in Him to likewise live forever following the resurrection of the dead on the day of His return. Like Him, we will experience physical death and by believing in Him we also, like Him, will rise again to eternal life in the presence of the Father. Then, like Him, we will never experience death. This eternal life is who He is, what He brings, and what He proved when He left the tomb empty.

Lord Jesus, You proved that You are all that You claimed to be: the Son of God the Father and the Son of Man; the eternal “I AM;” the Christ, the Messiah, the Holy One of Israel, the Lamb who takes away the sin of the world, who had to suffer and die to be reborn a spiritual body eternal to show us the way we all will be raised. Thank You, Lord, for taking on our sins and demonstrating Your love and power, Your faithfulness and obedience despite the horrors of Your physical death and separation from Your Father. Many have died heroic deaths for others, but no one but You endured the breaking of an eternal bond when the Father had to turn His face from You, the One He loved, when You took on all the sins of the world. All the death that had crushed mankind was weighed down on Your shoulders, You who were and are the resurrection and the life and the way to the Father. You laid down all Your power and privilege and glory, and Your unity with the Father, to purchase with Your blood all of us who choose to follow You. And once Your sacrifice was completed, You could not remain dead—not You, who are Yourself the resurrection and the life.

Do not any longer fear. He conquered sin and death and loves you now. He proved it on the cross and when He left the tomb empty. Trust Him.
