Purposeful Grace

He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time… – 2 Timothy 1:9

This verse tells me that God was never surprised that He had to save us. Salvation through Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection was no “Plan B,” but was conceived by God in perfect understanding before He spoke anything into existence. He chose grace as the method to achieve our salvation, which has always been His purpose. Grace is the unmerited favor of God given to us as a gift; it cannot be earned by anything we could do, but like any gift, we have the freedom to reject it. Because of His eternal purpose and infinite grace, we can be saved. Then He calls us to holiness.

Father, it is astounding that You thought of us before You even spoke the universe into existence, and that before time began You conceived of grace for us in Christ Jesus. Embed this truth in my mind and heart so I can know Your love for me more and comprehend it more truly. And enable me to hear Your call to holiness when I’m tempted to respond to the song of sin.

He has you in His mind, and He has, in Christ Jesus, since before He started the clock of time. Stay in Him, and hear His call to holiness and purpose over any other call.
