ROPE 4 for November

Reveal: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare – 2 Peter 3:8b-10.

Observations: The time/space continuum is viewed differently by God: He is not limited or short-sighted like we are. His word is already fulfilled from His vantage point, as He sees the end from the beginning, and knows all things. We are restricted in time and space, living second by second, sequentially experiencing actions, causes and effects. But He sees all (and loves us anyway). From His vantage point, our sins have always been atoned for, and we are always who we will be when completeness comes with Christ’s return. We agitate and press, urgently wanting Him to act in our timing, based on our limited understanding. But He is weaving a majestic tapestry beyond our comprehension, and His purpose is the salvation of all who are called. He does not want anyone to perish. Yet the day of the Lord will surprise us all and everything done in the earth will be revealed.

Prayer: Lord God, thank You for Your patience, for Your long-suffering kindness towards us sinners. You desire our good—our salvation, our repentance—so You can bless us and in doing so bring us into the fullness of who You have created us to be. This is because of Your great love for us, Your compassion for all mankind. You desire that everyone would be saved. Weave Your tapestry in my life, Father. Show me the way You would have me act, all that You would have me do, and be glorified in all my life. Teach me Your ways so I no longer agitate and bristle in the yoke You provide, Your easy and light yoke, but so instead I lean into Your truths and provision and Your good works with enthusiasm, obedient and faithful always.

Exercise: There is no panic with God. He is in control, and He is patient, achieving all He has in mind. Go with His plan. Lean into Him willingly and enthusiastically, knowing for certain that His outcome will be achieved. Do the eternal work that will last.
