The Strength of My Heart

My heart and my flesh may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. —  Psalm 73:26

My heart and my flesh fail often, when discouragement and fatigue take hold of me. Yet I am not dependent upon the strength and valor of my heart and flesh; I am dependent upon Jesus Christ. He is mighty to supply all I need regardless of the weaknesses of my heart and flesh. No circumstance, no person or people, no authority or nation or natural calamity, no illness or injury or pain, is greater than Jesus. He is the One who owns all things and can create out of nothing all I need, just as He created out of nothing all that exists.

Father, I thank You that my own strength does not decide my fate, but You do. My heart and flesh cannot even prevail over my own weaknesses and evil tendencies, much less the evil in this world and the difficulties that rise before me. But You—You are the overcoming One, the becoming One, the One who meets me whenever I call out to You and who fulfills my needs anytime and eternally. You are my very great reward because of who You are, and because of Your great power and Your joyous love for me and devotion to my welfare, and because Your resources are superabundant for anything I could ask or seek. You in Your glory and majesty and holiness are a greater and vaster provision and reward and portion than anything mankind could even conceive.

Don’t be surprised when your heart and flesh fail. They will. But God will never fail you nor forsake you. He is your strength and your reward and provision, and there is no one, and nothing, greater.
