Weary and Burdened?

Reveal: “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”—Mt. 11:28-30.

Observations: Jesus wants to take our weariness and burdens from us. He wants to give us rest from the oppression and fatigue of struggling with the masters of this world, and to replace those masters and become the Master that blesses us. With Jesus as Lord, we can be relieved of worry over provision and over satisfying other people. We are now only yoked with Him in kingdom work with the support of thousands upon thousands of others who are also joined with Him alongside us. He tells us to learn from Him, from His gentleness and humility of heart. Be like Him in this way, learn from Him, and through His leadership and tutelage, through emulating Him and no longer serving earthly masters, find rest for your soul. He does not overburden us, but bears our burdens.

Prayer: Thank You, Jesus, for caring for us. Thank You for Your great compassion for us. You command us to love, to express Your love to others, and to accept Your yoke and to work alongside You and Your people. Help me to learn Your gentleness and humility of heart, to set aside all forms of self-absorption in favor of Your love. And thank You for Your promise of rest for my soul. Help me to find this rest in You, to no longer strive and no longer be agitated or anxious or downcast. Teach me instead to rely on You at all times and to be subject only to You and Your easy yoke and light burden.

Exercise: When you become burdened or weary, pray that He would take your cares. Take in return His yoke and burden, helping others out of a gentle and humble heart, and find rest for your soul in Him.
